How to reach Sant'Antioco

The island of Sant’Antioco is located on the south-western coast of Sardinia, in the Province of South Sardinia (formerly Carbonia-Iglesias), and is connected to Sardinia by a causeway about 4 km long. Although it is an island, it is easily accessible by car or coach.

Note: public transport in Sardinia can be infrequent, so having a car available is very useful for visiting the island with freedom.

Main distances:

From Cagliari and the airport: about 70 km → travel time: 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Train

The nearest station is Carbonia Serbariu, about 20 minutes from Sant’Antioco by car.

For train schedules, check the Trenitalia website or app.

Until 2026, works are planned on the Cagliari – Carbonia Serbariu line: travellers must alight at Decimomannu and use the replacement bus service to Carbonia.

Tips:
consider the additional transfer time, coordinated train/bus schedules, and possible delays due to traffic.
